A Guide to Keeping Your Windows in Top Condition

Woman Cleaning a Doub-Hung Window

Windows play a vital role in a home; offering protection from the elements, allowing natural light in, and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the house. To keep these windows functioning effectively and looking their best, it’s essential to follow proper maintenance guidelines. In this guide, we’ll go through the key steps to take for window maintenance and ensure your windows remain in top condition.

Clean Windows & Frames Regularly

Regular cleaning is a must for maintaining your windows. Use a soft cloth and a mild soap solution to clean the glass and frames. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could potentially damage the surface. Cleaning your windows on a regular basis will help to keep them looking their best and functioning efficiently.

Care & Operation of Your Vytex Windows

Check Weatherstripping Yearly

Weatherstripping is the material used to seal the gap between the window frame and the wall. Over time, it can become brittle and crack, leading to air leaks. To prevent this, it’s crucial to check the weatherstripping regularly and replace it if necessary. By doing so, you’ll improve the energy efficiency of your windows and reduce energy bills.

Apply Window Lubrication

Hinges and locking mechanisms on windows can become stiff and difficult to operate over time. Regular lubrication with a silicone-based lubricant can help keep them moving smoothly and ensure that the windows are easy to open and close.

Make Repairs Quickly

If you notice any cracks, chips, or other damage to the glass, it’s essential to have it repaired promptly. Not only will this improve the appearance of your windows, but it will also prevent further damage from occurring and reduce the risk of glass breakage.

Inspect Windows Regularly

Regular inspections are important to catch any potential problems before they become serious. Look for signs of wear and tear and make any necessary repairs or replacements promptly. This will help to maintain the overall condition of your windows and prevent any potential issues from becoming bigger problems in the future.

By following this guide to keeping your windows in top condition, you can ensure your windows remain in top condition for years to come. Whether you’re maintaining older windows or installing new ones, proper window maintenance is key to preserving their functionality and appearance.

Had a contractor in NJ replace 17 windows using Vytex Windows in the spring. The windows are very strong and look high end. The new windows definitely helped with the drafts. Our old windows were original from 1987 and our home was freezing in the winter and hot as an oven in the summer. The new Vytex windows definitely got rid of the draft issue we had and the difference is very noticeable especially in the bedrooms. Next on our list is a new patio door from Vytex.

I am writing a nice review on my Vytex window experience. We are in new jersey and had all new windows installed about 10 months ago as well as a Vytex patio door. Our home was very drafty and made it very uncomfortable in the cold winter months and just as bad when it was hot in the summer. Our home is now much warmer and quite noticeable. The difference was equally noticeable this past summer when we had a heat wave; our home was much cooler...
