7 Signs You Need to Replace Your Windows

Window Condensation/ Window damage
Windows with excessive condensation and moisture can cause water and mold damage to your home.

Repairs and updates to your home can be costly making it easy to put them off. But, doing so can lead to additional costs, damage and stress. Of course, you want to get the most out of your home and the products you put into it. But how do you know when it’s the right time to replace your windows? Here are 7 signs you shouldn’t put it off any longer.

1. Increased Energy Bills

According to the United States Department of Energy, heat gain and heat loss through windows are responsible for 25%–30% of residential heating and cooling energy use. If you’ve noticed an increase in your energy bills it may be because your furnace or AC is working overtime to compensate for drafty and damaged windows. Put that money toward investing in long-lasting, highly efficient windows and see big savings on your energy bills.

2. Cracked Frames or Leaky Windows

Older window frames, especially wooden ones, are susceptible to damage and moisture leading to loss of window efficiency. Over time, being exposed to moisture and dampness can also lead to mold growth putting your family’s health at risk. Replace old and damaged windows with quality constructed and long-lasting materials.

3. Condensation

When warm air from outside meets with the cold surface of your window, condensation appears. If you notice condensation between your glass panes, it’s a sign that the seals have failed and your window is no longer energy efficient. If condensation appears consistently or frost appears, it’s time to replace your windows.

4. Drafts

Can you feel the breeze even when your windows are closed? Whether the cause of poor installation, construction or the age of your windows, this is a sure sign that It’s no longer properly insulated. Upgrade your windows and look for quality construction with insulating options.

5. Sound Proofing

While the birds chirping may be a welcome sound, other outside noises are not. If it sounds like the outside is coming in or if you live in a busy neighborhood, then it may be time to upgrade your windows. Newer windows offer long-lasting insulation options to help dampen the sound. Look for double or triple-paned windows insulated with Argon or Krypton gas.

6. Poor Window Operation

Opening and closing your windows should be a breeze, not a workout. However, poorly installed or damaged windows can cause balance issues to develop leading to poor window operation. Older or damaged window locks can also pose security concerns. If your windows are not operating with ease, it’s time to replace them. Look for a window resistant to damage and rust and seek out a dealer with experienced installers.

7. Curb Appeal

Windows are one of the most prominent features of your home and provide great curb appeal. If they look damaged and dated then your home will too. Add impact and value by updating your home with long-lasting, exceptionally-constructed Vytex windows.

Had a contractor in NJ replace 17 windows using Vytex Windows in the spring. The windows are very strong and look high end. The new windows definitely helped with the drafts. Our old windows were original from 1987 and our home was freezing in the winter and hot as an oven in the summer. The new Vytex windows definitely got rid of the draft issue we had and the difference is very noticeable especially in the bedrooms. Next on our list is a new patio door from Vytex.

I am writing a nice review on my Vytex window experience. We are in new jersey and had all new windows installed about 10 months ago as well as a Vytex patio door. Our home was very drafty and made it very uncomfortable in the cold winter months and just as bad when it was hot in the summer. Our home is now much warmer and quite noticeable. The difference was equally noticeable this past summer when we had a heat wave; our home was much cooler...
